Steelhead Creek HUGE Cleanup (Day 6), 10/1/2025

On Wednesday, 16 volunteers enjoyed more perfect weather for Day 6 of our HUGE 7-Day Inter-Agency Cleanup @ Steelhead Crk, where we targeted more trash in the creek and along the banks.

Getting an early start at 8 am, we hopped back over to the left bank where Sacramento City Park Rangers helped us with a couple of recalcitrant campers who had refused to allow us to remove about 2 tons of trash and debris on the floodplain. Compliance was obtained and cleaning ensued. It was a disaster and we were very pleased we were able to clean the area.

We then caravaned over to the right bank and cleaned several former campsites right on the water, that had spilled into the creek. The resultant mess was truly disgusting, but we got to work and made some really great progress. In all, we made 3 giant piles of debris on the day, plus several smaller ones.

Once again, the amazing crews from Reclamation District 1000 and American River Flood Control District hauled off our piles. The total daily haul included a soggy mattress, 7 shopping carts, 2 tires, piles of textiles, construction materials, 75-100 disassembled bicycles, plastic bags, carpeting, shoes, food and beverage containers, foam padding, couch cushions, pallets, cyclone fencing, and more.
