Steelhead Creek Cleanup, 10/3/24

Hi everyone, this is David. For good or bad, yesterday was the last day of our HUGE 7-Day Inter-Agency Cleanup @ Steelhead Crk . While it’s amazing to have removed 85,000 pounds of trash from this poor creek, the final day always leaves me wanting to beg, “Give Me Just a Little More Time”. Because even after 7 intense days of cleaning, we had to leave so much trash behind.

Fortunately, I am not alone in this feeling, which gives me hope that this amazing group will be back in this neglected and abused creek section soon to continue our progress.

We would like to express our most sincere gratitude to Friends of Steelhead Creek (Dr. Roland Brady and Crystal Tobias), Rich Muhl (formerly of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board - he retired TODAY!), American River Flood Control District, Reclamation District 1000, our great friends at Elk Grove Anti-Trash Volunteers and the amazing volunteers from River City Waterway Alliance for making such a massive impact.

While there is so much pollution left, imagine what it would look like if the more than 585,000 pounds of trash removed in recent years from this short creek section had been left untouched.

4 endangered Chinook Salmon somehow made it up Steelhead Creek to their historical spawning grounds in Dry Creek last year. So sad and disappointing, but at least this gene pool is still trying. We need to do more to help them, and all the humans, wildlife and other species suffering from this mass pollution. ????????
