Freezing cold at Rainbow Lake | Brutal -8°C Carp Fishing Session

We’re into the first week at the legendary Rainbow Lake, but it’s been more camping than fishing as nighttime temperatures have plunged to -8°C. Ice has formed in the margins, the ground is rock solid, and to make matters worse I made the epic mistake of bringing butane gas instead of a butane-propane mix — meaning even the gas bottles stopped working.

As we reach Wednesday of week one, just two fish have been landed around the entire lake:

A stunning 56lb common by Damian in Post One

A beautiful 49lb mirror by Martin Currie from Post 12

Both fish came on Monday afternoon, and since then it's been very quite.

But things may be about to change.

This afternoon the weather has shifted from a brutal Easterly to a far better South Westerly, with wind and rain forecast for the next week, and I’m hoping this new pressure system finally stirs the carp into feeding.

This is real carp fishing — cold, quiet, uncomfortable… but full of belief.
