A Day at Fensmere: New Anglers Arrive & A Shocking Otter Discovery at the Fish Farm

What started as a perfect morning at Fensmere quickly took a dark turn. After welcoming Graeme and Dave to the lake for their week of carp fishing, I headed up to the fish farm for routine checks. With no signs of cormorants and calm conditions, everything seemed spot on... until I spotted something gut-wrenching — a big dead carp on the bank.

It was clear: an otter had been on site. After the hard winter dealing with cormorant attacks, this was the last thing we needed. Predation at a fishery is heartbreaking — especially when it's a good fish lost.

In today’s video, I take you through the highs and lows of the day — from the buzz of anglers starting their session, to the grim reality of managing a working fish farm and protecting the stock. I also chat about the ongoing issues with the 6-ton excavator and what we’re doing to try and find a solution to the predator problem.
