Richard T. and I took a break during our Summer Steelhead fishing trip to film this "tour" of his fishing van. He has been working on this project for the last couple years, I first saw the van in January of 2023.

BELOW IS INFORMATION PROVIDED BY RICHARD T. FOR THOSE CONSIDERING A BUILD:

USING A VAN FOR FISHING

Pros:

Storage:
1) Visually secure & locked storage at home or fishing destination. (More secure with blacked out windows). A truck or car is not always the best for securing valuable gear.
2) Ability to park without concern for City towing as an RV or trailer might have.
3) Store a fishing kayak, float tube, Pontoon and other fishing gear for season within van.
4) Easy transport of a heavy fishing kayak with easy lift into van. (No car tops or straps during transport).
5) Safe storage and transport of multiple fishing rods using interior PVC rack.

Range:
Normally maximum travel range to a fishing site is approximately two hours out and two hours back in a single day, as a reasonable total drive time. (Less for travel time on shorter winter days). Van (even in a no-build status) allows for 1 or 2 overnight trips without much fuss. No tent to set up and secure sleeping in bad weather.
All you need is basic camping gear.
(Sleeping bag, pillow, sleeping pad, small cook top, water, coffee, etc.).

Set-ups:
The van allows you to carry a wide variety of fishing gear and set-ups. When arriving at a new fishing location, you can select a float tube, wader pants and fins for trout in a pond or quickly deploy the Kayak for a larger body of water (lake). More rod options to target bass, or if a river for salmon and steelhead with Rain gear, waders and wading boots. A quick and easy to set-up and tear-down gear at the pond, lake or river.

Extras:
Folding chair/s and table to work on fishing gear etc. 12v Fridge for cold drinks / lunch / fillet fish. Dimmable interior lighting.
Air pump for float tube and mattress.
12v heating blanket.
Unlimited music system from apple I-phone via Bluetooth. Back-up camera which also functions as a rear viewing mirror. Levelers for more comfortable sleep.

Cons:
Gas milage (15-16 mi/gal) for a van.
Learning to drive safely with limited visibility.
