The River Test is known around the world as the home of traditional English fly fishing — crystal clear chalk stream water, wild trout, and centuries of history.

But today, we’re doing something a little different.

Instead of targeting trout, I headed down into the tidal reaches near Southampton Water in search of bass. As freshwater meets saltwater, this legendary river completely changes character, and at the right stage of the tide, predators move in.

In this session I’ll be exploring the lower River Test, working lures through the current, and seeing whether bass can really be found in one of the UK’s most iconic rivers.
