In this video I was able to spend a few hours fishing Maine for the first time ever! Just based on the gear I had I was limited on my options, so I decided to go after one of Maine's most famous fish... the native brook trout. I specifically was trying to catch a certain kind of brook trout called a "salter" or a "coaster" which is a migratory brook trout that swims out to the ocean and back.

I did end up catching a few native brook trout on the fly in this video, but I have no idea if they were salters / coasters. In fact I highly doubt they were. Even in this migratory systems there are trout that stay in the creeks all year round, and since it's early spring that's likely the fish I was catching. Having said that I still had a blast fishing Maine and the state is beautiful. I will 100% be coming back to fish Maine more thoroughly. It's so cool that you can start out fishing the ocean and within a mile be on a Mountain stream, all while searching for the most beautiful fish on earth.
