Close to the heart of Oregon Coastal Dunes National Recreation Area , this working fishing town is an ideal basecamp for all kinds of travel and fishy expeditions into the Southern Coast. Known as the “Crab Capital of the World”, Winchester Bay provides RV parking, boat parking, cabin rentals, bait, ice, a motel and even a post office. This is an ideal place to spend a weekend for camping, surfing, and fishing. You can fish for rockfish, salmon or fresh Dungeness Crab. All the restaurants in town serve fresh, locally caught seafood. Best clam chowder! There is a 40-mile stretch of coastal dunes for off-highway vehicle (OHV) use and sandboarding.

Visit the Umpqua River lighthouse museum near Lake Marie. The 65-foot tower contains a distinctive lens that emits a red and white flash. Stay in the Half Moon Bay Campground or hike through Ziolkouski Beach Park.

There are several budget hotels in the small town Reedsport across the highway and along the Umpqua River. There is a Best Western Salbasgeon Inn & Suites in Reedsport.
