Undertaker

In this video, our volunteer Fabio shows you how to tie the "Undertaker” Atlantic Salmon fly. It seems that Warren Duncan invented the Undertaker in 1979 on the east coast of North America as an Atlantic salmon pattern. This is a fly that you can swing to target Salmon and steelhead. As most salmon flies, this one doesn’t imitate any insect or bait fish.

Materials list:

Threads: Size 140 denier white and 140 black
Hook: Salmon hook size 2 down to 8. I used a Daiichi 2051 size 5. You can tie this fly on a double hook as well.
Ribbing: Small French oval tinsel in gold
Hot spots: Bright green and bright red floss (alternative use 240 UTC thread)
Thorax: Peacock herl
Collar: Black soft hackle to match hook size
Wing: Black Possum hair (alternative black Artic fox tail, squirrel, or black bear hair) The original pattern calls for Black Bear hair, but good bear hair is difficult to find.
Skill level: intermediate +
