Trout Baits - Tested in the Winter

I picked out 8 of the best Trout Baits I could think of and fished each one extensively, so you can see for yourself which ones work, and which don't. They were all fished in the mid-Winter, and included some interesting baits that you don't see every day.

Trout fishing in the Winter can seem more difficult than it has to be. Trout are cold-water fish, and actually thrive in the Winter. Though their metabolisms do slow down, they were very active when I was fishing these baits.

The rigs I used were a Drop Shot (with a dropper loop) Rig, and a Carolina Rig. The Drop Shot is especially good for getting your bait down into the strike zone, when you don't have a floating bait. I used the Carolina Rig with the Powerbait Dough Bait, which allows the bait to float up the distance you place the hook from the swivel. It also allows the line to move freely with a sliding sinker, so the fish don't feel as much resistance of the weight/line.
