I developed this fly about six years ago (I said 3 in the video, but I went back and checked my notes afterwards) for fishing steelhead on my local stream. It’s not a particularly innovative pattern or a difficult one to tie, but it has been a solid producer on waters wherever salmon return in large numbers.
Materials:
-Hook: Mustad Aberdeen Jig sz.6*
-Bead: Gold tungsten 4 mm
-Weight: 20 wraps 0.02 lead wire
-Thread: 140 UTC Fl. Fire Orange
-Tail: Fl. Orange Rabbit
-Flash: Holo Silver Flashabou
-Body: Flesh Rabbit strip
*Note: I failed to mention the hook used in the video, and also didn’t note that the slotted tungsten bead is tied slotted side forward due to the 90° bend on the jig. I like the Aberdeen hook for its strength and I’ve had some issues with other jig style hooks opening on larger fish.
