Czech nymphing has become a staple discipline within modern fly fishing. The technique has its roots in Eastern Europe (particularly the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Balkans) and works as follows:

The Equipment: It utilizes long rods, extended leaders, and heavy nymphs (often featuring multiple dropper flies). The flies are often quite simple but the technique can be super effective.

The Technique: The flies are cast upstream. By using only the leader, the flies sink rapidly to the bottom without being pulled upward by the current.

The Strike: The rod tip is held downstream while keeping a close eye on the leader. An immediate strike is made at any tension, resistance, or unusual movement.

In this video we have had the skilled dutch flytyer Jan De Haas behind the vise to demonstrate his favorite mini-jig the Floki, named and fieldtested at Icelandic rivers chasing big artic chars and sea run browns with great success.
