When autumn and winter temperatures drop, getting carp to feed on short sessions can be brutal. In this video, I break down why scaling down your terminal tackle and hookbait size is one of the most effective ways to trigger bites when the water goes cold.

We look at switching down to a subtle size 12 barbless hook paired with a single Robin Red pellet hair-rigged, keeping bait presentation neat and natural. After working through bites from tench and bream, the tactic pays off with a screaming bite alarm run and a cracking autumn mirror carp on the bank.
