76 fake beaver dams went into a dying Oregon creek in 2009. Seven years later it held three times more young steelhead trout. Creek restoration, done by beavers.

No concrete, no excavators — wooden posts, willow branches and mud in Bridge Creek, north-central Oregon. This is the whole creek restoration story: how an incised stream drops the groundwater under an entire valley, why the fake beaver dams were never the real fix, and which animal moved in and finished the ecological recovery for free, every night, for seven years.
