♦ The lake of Saint Cassien and its fresh waters are one of the most appreciated sites by locals and tourists of the Pays de Fayence.
The dam of Saint-Cassien on the Biançon river, a tributary of the Siagne, was built in 1966. It is used for two purposes: to produce electricity and to supply water to certain towns in the Var department and in the west of the Alpes-Maritimes department. Its role is also to act on the high waters to prevent flooding. Today, the lake Saint-Cassien has become a popular leisure base.
The Espace Découverte (Discovery Space) presents the history of the Pays de Fayence, its dam, but also geology. This fun and interactive visit is a great opportunity to learn more about this exceptional area.
On this 420-hectare stretch of water, numerous water sports activities are offered to vacationers. On the beach, children can swim in complete safety while parents can take advantage of the sun to perfect their tan and enjoy this moment of relaxation.

Nature on the shores of Lake Saint-Cassien remains fragile. The eastern part is protected by the Fondurane biological reserve managed by the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur. 182 species of birds have found refuge in this natural habitat. The fauna and flora are varied: European pond turtle, red-rumped swallow, false cork oak, Turkey oak, etc… An observatory has been set up so that young and old can see the different animals that live in the reserve.
