???? Labor Day weekend King Salmon jigging in West Grand Traverse Bay at “The Hole” — the Jonah Jigs 2 oz Grim Reaper was on fire! ????
We launched out of the Boardman River in my Lund 1800 Explorer and spot-locked over 65 feet of water with the Garmin Force trolling motor. On the Garmin LiveScope XR, salmon were stacked under the boat at first light, and the Reaper jig from Jonah Jigs (Traverse City, MI) was absolutely slaying them. We hooked two beautiful chrome hens while other boats around us struggled to get bites.
The combination of Okuma Guide Select Classic rods, Okuma Cold Water line counter reels, 30 lb PowerPro V8 braid, and 20 lb Seaguar Red Label SST fluorocarbon leaders made the perfect setup for jigging Kings. Even when a boat crowded in so close they had to pull their trolling motor to avoid my fish, we still landed our salmon.
This was a short but action-packed morning on the Great Lakes — proof that the right gear and presentation can make all the difference.
