Jorge Kozulj has been a fully certified IFMGA mountain guide since 2005, running Andescross out of Bariloche, Argentina. He started with a broad idea in 1999 (horseback riding, fly fishing, rafting) and let the business shrink naturally into what he loved most: ski mountaineering and ski touring.

In this conversation with Thomas and Jacqui, Jorge talks about how the internet in 1995 made it possible to start offering trips, why he traveled from Patagonia to Norway and Iceland and Kamchatka once clients started inviting him, and how word of mouth and a quarterly newsletter keep his business alive without heavy marketing.

He also breaks down what he looks for when hiring guides (common sense over technical skill), how his relationship with risk has shifted now that he's a father at 50, and why he's gotten more conservative on the mountains as his career has progressed.
