I headed to a local urban lake to search for a 50cm Redfin Perch and assess the health of this once-productive fishery.
This session follows a trip to a popular spot known for its redfin population. I explore the reality of urban fishing in accessible metropolitan zones, focusing on the current decline in numbers and size due to overfishing. You will see the practical side of targeting these fish, including the gear choices I made to adapt to the changing conditions of the lake.
By following this outing, you get a clear view of how to read the water to find active fish. We test out different lure fishing techniques to see if the local population is still responsive. Securing a large catch at the end was a highlight, and it provides a look at what to expect when fishing Melbourne today.
