What was supposed to be a casual not too exciting ride from Copiapó to La Serena turned into one of the best riding days of this journey through South America.

Instead of taking Chile’s main highway Ruta 5, Cherry and I followed a smaller coastal road… and it just kept getting better. Desert landscapes, ocean views, hidden beaches, fishing towns, endless curves, steep mountain switchbacks, and almost no traffic anywhere.

The smaller roads really are the best!
