A crisp winter morning greeted us with a hard overnight frost, and hopes were high that the sudden drop in temperature would switch the pike on the feed. I headed down to a secret stretch of river in search of winter predators, expecting the cold conditions to bring some action.

It turned out to be a slow and challenging day, with only two fish showing themselves for me. However, the highlight of the session came when another club member landed a new personal best pike of 14lb 14oz—an incredible fish and well deserved.
