After weeks of hot, dry weather and low river levels, I finally return to the Secret River for my first session since the season opened on June 16th. The river was overgrown with duckweed and heavy bankside vegetation, so day one was spent strimming paths and clearing swims – a real jungle mission!
On day two, with high hopes of finding a wild river carp, I set up and was rewarded with my first carp of the season (despite my digital scales failing at the crucial moment). I also picked up a surprise small chub on a micro lure while waiting for the carp to return.
It feels great to finally break the blank with a river carp on the bank, and I’ll be back soon to see if I can tempt a few more!
