Crabbing is a fun way to put food on the table for coastal living people. There are 2 types of traps featured in this video. One is called a "hoop" trap designed to catch larger crabs such as the king crab which have a hard time fitting through the trap doors of the square traps more commonly used for red rock crab and Dungeness crab. Because of their open concept arangement "hoop" traps are designed to have shorter soak times and should be checked every 10 - 20 minutes. The square traps can be left for 12 hours or more but will catch crabs in as soon as 10 minutes depending on the tide, bait and abundance of crab in the area.
