The Cowlitz River can be stubborn when it comes to giving up one if its prize fish, the Winter Run Steelhead. Not so on this day. Mike and I launched at day break to the tune of many other larger “guide” boats tearing up the water way. Without hesitation we ran up river away from the crowd only to have them following us up and down the river all day long. Needless to say this is what you must expect when fishing one of the most popular rivers for Winter run Steelhead in Washington State.

While bobber doggin’ soft beads, coon stripe shrimp, cured eggs, and puff balls soaked in every kind of scent you can imagine wasn’t productive, nor was side drifting eggs and shrimp. We did manage to boat two beautiful Steelhead on Coon Shrimp to end the day 2 for 2. Which was a much better catch ratio than most if not all of the guides. Yay for us…

This was not only a great day of fishing and friends, as a bonus I was greeted at the launch by another subscriber to this channel. An all to often event to which I am grateful and humbled.
