In this episode of Fishing With Steve, I head out before first light hoping to target winter pike — only to find frozen lakes, packed swims, and sub-zero temperatures making things extremely difficult. With air temperatures down to -2°C and water temps hovering around 2°C, this session turns into a real test of persistence.

After being forced off my original venue, I eventually manage to find a small unfrozen section of water and get the rods out. Using the bait boat to drop big static baits tight to a marginal shelf and drop-off, I fish hard ground in 13ft of water, hoping a slow-moving winter pike will pass through.
