Why Does the Whole World Get Sick When the Pacific Runs a Fever? ????️
The news says a "Super El Niño" is coming and everyone's worried. Who is El Niño? Jingjing says: not a person. It's Spanish for "the little boy", and he isn't a boy either: the Pacific Ocean has a fever. Zizi and Jingjing fly the paper plane from Malaysia right round the Pacific: how Peru's fishermen named him, how the trade wind in the middle of the ocean pushes the warm water back and forth, home to 1998's 40.1 degrees and this year's haze, then Australia's white coral, India's monsoon, the queue at the Panama Canal, too much rain in California and Kenya, and finally Geneva, where the scientists' thermometer says the sea could be 3.8 degrees warmer than usual by year's end, hotter than anything in their records. Jingjing explains it all without looking up from her comic (very impatiently).
???? Save water, no open burning, drink more water when it's hot, and mask up in the haze. A cactus doesn't need the sprinkler on all day!
