One of the better perch I've caught from this stretch of the Thames - on a lure I made myself. Meet the Maverick Tackle Big Pincher in Ignition Red. ????

I'm taking a heavier setup to the Upper Thames and putting my own soft plastics to work. After starting with a beaver-style lure, I switch to the star of this session: the Big Pincher crayfish in Ignition Red, with chunky glitter and crayfish scent.
You'll see the rod and reel setup, the first lure, the switch to the crayfish, how I rig it on an EWG hook, and the perch that made the session worthwhile. There are plenty of casts between the good bits, too - some sped up so you can see the work that goes into finding a fish.
That's the approach today: try a bigger profile and see whether I can tempt a better perch. Fewer bites are a trade-off I'm willing to make when a fish like this is the reward.
I'm the lure maker behind Maverick Tackle. I design and pour handmade soft plastic lures here in the UK, then take them fishing myself. Colour, glitter, scent and how a lure fishes all matter to me - and I love seeing one of my creations earn its place on the bank.
