???? The Pink Salmon Have ARRIVED… Sort Of ????

On August 10th, 2025, I headed out to the Squamish River in hopes of tangling with the first wave of the pink salmon run. I saw a few fish rise (probably pinks… but hey, my fish ID from 40 feet away isn’t perfect). The good news? They’re in the system now! The bad news? The only thing I caught was a world-class sunburn.

I threw everything at them:

Spinning rod with a pink & chartreuse marabou jig ???? and a gibbs pink spoon (which I lost ????)

5 wt fly rod with a pink streamer ????

Result? Nada. Zip. Zero. (Unless we count UV rays… in which case I hooked plenty.)

After my epic defeat on the river, I decided to switch things up and headed to Brohm Lake for some paddle boarding + fishing therapy. The trout were surface striking like crazy, so I tied on a mayfly pattern and focused on drop-offs and sunken logs.

Finally, after days of chasing ghosts, I caught a beautiful wild cutthroat trout! ???????? No sign of the stocked rainbows this time, but honestly, the cutty made the whole trip worth it.

Overall? A gorgeous day outdoors, some epic views, a lot of paddling, and a humbling reminder that fish don’t care about your plans.
