In this video, Jeff Kolodzinski (host of the Marathon Man Event, check out here: https://marathonmanfishing.com/), breaks down a timeless float system for panfish. Kolodzinski shows how a bobber can outproduce lures and rigs. Moreover, he explains when to choose a slip float or a fixed float. The goal is simple: present bait at the exact depth where fish feed.

Why Floats Catch More Panfish
Floats improve bite detection and depth control. They also help cover water efficiently. As a result, anglers locate active panfish fast. Additionally, a bobber keeps the bait in the strike zone longer. That consistency triggers more takes from bluegill and related species.

Fixed Float vs. Slip Float
A fixed float excels in shallow water. Set it to the target depth and cast with ease. However, rod length limits maximum depth. Therefore, deeper presentations need a slip float. With a slip float, the line runs through the float freely. A simple stop knot parks the bait at 10, 15, or even 25 feet. Consequently, the presentation remains precise and repeatable.

Where This System Shines
This approach works from bank, dock, or boat. Shade, brush, and dock pilings hold reliable panfish. Start shallow with a fixed float. Then expand to adjacent deeper edges with a slip float. In many cases, the larger fish sit a bit deeper. That is where precise depth control pays off.
