Why the "toss"?

The "toss" or "dump" method is used because it helps the fish to become more active and swim off immediately after being released.

Not harmful:

Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) officials say that the "bucket toss" is not harmful to the trout.

Reinforcing the technique:

Many stocking buckets are labeled with a decal that reads, "Dump it, Don't Dip It!" to reinforce the proper technique.

Energizing the fish:

The toss helps energize the fish and gets water moving through their gills.

Acclimation:

The toss helps the fish acclimate to the water immediately.

Probably on Noles Creek in Loretto, PA.
