Steelhead Fishing with Spawn Sacs in Port Washington - Sauk Creek

The Quest Continues! Fish Species 14 out of 50 caught today. Now, I thought I caught a steelhead before, but internet sleuths were saying the trout I caught in Milwaukee was a Brown Trout. This one is a steelhead. I'm sure of it. That means fish 14. For the uninitiated, I'm trying to catch 50 different species of fish in Wisconsin, and catch every one of them on video, too.

I actually made my way into Port Washington on Lake Michigan because I heard there are really big carp in the harbor in spring that are spawning. I did get one bite, but didn't hook into a carp. Then I changed tactics, and checked out the little river, Sauk Creek that flowed into Lake Michigan. I saw some trout swimming upstream, too. I got out the spawn sacs and I ended up catching one steelhead (they are also called rainbow trout but the steelhead spend most of their lives in Lake Michigan instead of in a river. Rainbow trout just stay in rivers all their lives instead of going to sea or into a huge lake like Lake Michigan.

If you are wondering how to catch steelhead, just get some spawn sacs, get a bobber (which some people call a float) and cast it into the river. Let the bobber float around, and wait for a bite.
