This recording was made on July 3rd, 2026 near the town of Kobarid in Slovenia.

Meet Daniele, an Italian fisherman from Udine who comes to the Soča river to find an escape from the city life. It takes him over an hour to get here but he ensures me it's worth it. For hours, he'll stand in the river, scanning the water for trout.

"A good fisherman must know how to read, not books, but the river. It's the river that tells you what's needed in the cycle of life."

After Daniele catches a fish, he proudly shows me and then gently releases the animal back into the water. He's been a vegetarian for over 45 years.

On the recording, you'll hear Daniele fishing in the Soča river. We recorded the sound an hour after this footage was shot.
