We joined Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Outfitter Josh Nugent of Out Fly Fishing Fly Shop in Calgary late in the fall. With recent fall rain, the conditions weren't perfect for trout spotting, but a few beams of sunlight filtered through the south bank aspen and had a few nice rainbows and browns glowing in the somewhat murky water. We used small hoppers and fall caddis dries with 2 - 2 1/2 foot droppers with tungsten beads to drop the small nymphs quickly through the water column. While some Bow River anglers will target that exact tree and its trough, seam, and current break, almost every single bank along the Bow River has this opportunity.
