Onboard Scenic Eclipse, Livinia got her first taste of yacht life as she cruised effortlessly overnight from Barcelona to France, first stop Collioure, just north of the Spanish border. The incredibly charming and romantic village on the sun-drenched Mediterranean coast attracted Matisse and
Picasso to paint the colourful houses and fishing boats and launch the Fauvism art movement.
After a morning kayak around the coast, Livinia explored the quaint streets and markets, and while it may look and feel very French, the town has strong ties to Spain. Collioure was a part of Catalonia, now Spain, until the border was moved in 1659. Spanish influences are still evident today as Livinia tried a special ice cream with turrón, a Spanish nougat delicacy.
Back on board Scenic Eclipse where the 10 deck ship has all the comforts and facilities of a large ocean liner, but without the crowds. From wellness classes to the opulent Senses day spa there are plenty of ways to spoil yourself.
If you can drag yourself away from the cocoon of ultra-luxury on the ship, then Portofino on the Italian Riviera is a great place to do it! Steep mountains meet the sparkling sea, and fresh seafood practically
jumps onto your plate. Of course Italy is all about the food, so Livinia signed up for a culinary experience in the neighbouring town of Rapallo. After a hands-on lesson in the art of making pesto, they explored the village, sampling some local delicacies like cheese, olive oil and ice cream.
In a true rockstar moment Livinia got to fly over the Tuscan archipelago in one of Scenic Eclipse two Airbus helicopters.^ The 30 minute experience was definitely one she will remember forever.
