Persistent rain, cold hands, and a long winter day on the river. A few days later our swims were 6 foot under water.
We began the session fishing under a bridge, hoping it would offer both shelter from the rain and a natural holding area for pike. From there, it was a case of reading the water, moving when needed, and sticking with deadbaits despite tough conditions.
This is what real winter river fishing looks like most of the time.
