In this trip I headed out on the boat for a long, slow trolling session at Cairn Curran Reservoir. The action was slow to start with and no touches for a few hours, forcing a few lure changes to see what would trigger a reaction from active native fish.

Finally, tying on a Warlock Native Lolly hardbody lure completely saved the day. For a first-time test, this lure proved its worth by turning the slow trip around, landing three solid golden perch (yellowbelly) on the troll while keeping an eye on bottom structure with the Lowrance ActiveTarget 2XL.

However, just after landing the third golden perch, absolute disaster struck. The second rod running alongside the boat hit a heavy underwater snag. Before there was any time to react, line peeled rapidly off the reel, the massive pressure snapped the rod holder completely clean off, and the entire rod and reel setup sank straight to the bottom of the lake. Despite recovery efforts, the setup was lost to the depths, making this one of the most painful boat trip endings yet!
