A solid cod bite is finally developing along the South Shore of the island with a few of the head and charter boats taking advantage of every weather opportunity they can get to fish them. Limit catches were reported from last weekend on a mix of bait and jigs but fresh clams defiantly got the nod over the artificials. Fly fishing for trout at Connetquot was another great option going into the first week of March and white perch are staying consistently active in the tidal rivers. The DEC hosted their sea bass meeting on Monday night to discuss the regulation options for the 2023 season. Another MRAC meeting will take place on March 7th to finalize them. And keep in mind, on Saturday is the 10th annual Ward Melville High School Fishing Fundraiser and Expo. The Fisherman Magazine will have a booth at the event and we will be giving out tackle for signing up or resubscribing at it. Stop by if you can and say hello.
