The BEST Winter Trout Fishing I've ever had!!

You ever have one of those days that just doesn’t feel real? Where everything is lining up, and even in the moment, you realize you won’t be able to recreate what is happening in front of you for a very long time. Well on January 16th, 2023 my buddy Dustin and I had one of those days. Where, for seemingly no reason at all, the fish threw caution to the wind and gave us an incredible show. This is the best day of winter streamer fishing I’ve ever had.

The conditions for the day weren’t ideal. It was 28 degrees when we stepped into the water with the sun just cresting over the mountains. We would have been happy with ANY browns, so when I immediately caught a good fish, our day was already made. Everything else was icing on the cake. Dustin followed up shortly after that with an incredible brown trout and we were off to the races!

The entire sequence of 3 big browns came within maybe 10 minutes of each other all out of the same hole. That was some of the quickest back to back fish of that quality that I’ve ever seen. But What you won’t see is the previous days of fishing with little to nothing to show for it, and the hours on the water both dustin and I have spent over the years to have a winter day like we had this January.
