Welcome back to another episode of “Why Am I Doing This?”
The alarm went off at an hour usually reserved for milkmen and criminals, the temperature was a cheerful -4°C, and I immediately questioned every life choice I’ve ever made.
After a long walk carrying what felt like the entire contents of a tackle shop (plus things I definitely didn’t need), I set about fishing more pegs than a garden fence.
Fingers numb, toes frozen, but spirits high — because somehow it turned into a properly enjoyable day.
Luckily I’d packed posh sandwiches (the kind that make you feel like a sponsored angler even if you’re blanking) and plenty of hot coffee, which was worth its weight in gold.
Despite the cold, the walking, and the constant internal debate of “one more peg then I’m done”… I was already planning my next session on the walk home, because anglers never learn.
