Every spring something remarkable happens on Irish rivers that most anglers walk straight past without knowing it. Twaite Shad — one of Europe's oldest migratory fish — leave the Atlantic and push up into Irish rivers to spawn. The River Barrow holds one of the last viable populations in Europe and in this video I head down to find them, fish for them and document the whole experience.

This video covers everything — the species itself, where to find them, how to fish for them and why they matter. Twaite Shad are a protected species in Ireland and every fish caught goes straight back. This is pure wild fish experience on one of Ireland's most special rivers.
