Carp Care at Fensmere Carp Fishing Lake | Managing and Weighing Big Carp the Right Way ????

I got an early call from Dan this morning — he'd just landed a stunning upper 40lb carp at Fensmere, and I jumped in the buggy to assist with photos. With the spring sun shining, it was the perfect chance to walk you through how we prioritize carp care and fish management here at the lake.

At Fensmere Carp Fishing Lake, our approach to fish welfare sets us apart. The most important rule? Fish are never lifted onto the bank. Instead:

???? After landing the carp, it's unhooked in the water — crushed barbed hooks make this quick and safe.
???? The fish is left to recover in the deep-meshed net while we prepare the weighing and photography gear.
???? The carp is gently slid — while still in the water — into a retainer/weigh sling.
???? It's then moved to the weighing structure and carefully placed onto a floating mat for weighing, taking less than a minute.
???? Once weighed, the fish is either returned to the water or placed briefly on the mat for photos.

This process massively reduces stress on the carp — crucial for their health, longevity, and even their willingness to return to normal feeding habits sooner.

✅ Proper fish care isn’t just about following the rules — it’s about respecting the fish and ensuring they thrive for future anglers to enjoy.
