Let’s face it, carp fishing in winter can be tough, but pick the right lake, get your location spot on and select the correct method and you can still catch carp even in the toughest of conditions.

Alex Shorrock spent a recent session on day-ticket water, Esnes Quarry in the West Midlands, a lake that reaches depths of 45ft in places!

After a fruitless first night in shallower water, Alex switched his tactics to deeper water and began to catch almost instantly, going on the bag a string of beautiful scaly mirror carp.

In this little piece, Alex takes us through his approach to baiting up in deep water and the bait items he uses to ensure his mix gets down to the bottom.
