In this episode of PT’s Get Hooked, I’m out on a winter pike session on an old reservoir, focusing on fishing deadbaits properly in thick weed.

Winter pike fishing in weedy lakes can be difficult, but in this video I break down two of my go-to rigs for these conditions — the sunk float paternoster and the drifter float rig — and explain when and why I use each one.

The session takes place at the end of November, with frost on the ground and water temperatures dropping fast. Earlier in the season I was working weedless lures through thick pads, but as winter set in it was time to switch tactics and get the deadbaits out in search of bigger pike.

Along the way I show:
???? How I fish the sunk float paternoster
???? When I switch to the drifter float rig
???? Presenting deadbaits in heavy weed
???? Pike behaviour in cold water
???? Adjusting tactics as conditions change

If you fish weedy waters and struggle with deadbait presentation, this session should give you a few practical ideas to take onto the bank.
