BIG carp fishing with light line

Catching this big carp gave me such a buzz. Carp are by far the greatest fighting freshwater fish species here in Victoria pound for pound. Yes, a 100cm Murray cod is probably going to fight a lot harder than a 40cm carp, but if you had a cod and a carp the same size I am positive that the carp will fight much harder...every time!
My largest Murray cod is 98cm. My largest yellowbelly is 62cm, my largest measured carp is 78cm. Of the 3 fish, the 98cm Murray cod fought the worst. The carp faught the best. The yellowbelly certainly gave a very good account of itself though.
Although carp are an invasive pest species of fish here in Australia, they certainly do ass value to the fishing industry as well. They are amazing sport fish, are a popular fishing option for many anglers, particularly younger people as people who live in Melbourne and they have a great water temperature tollerence. They can survive in water that is far too warm for most natives, and they can survive in really cold water as well.
One of the keys to the carps survival lies in it's ability to take in oxygen directly from the air, whereas many other species need to get it through the water. This is why carp can survive so well in stale and stagnant lagoons and billibongs with no current, no water flowing in and super low levels of dissolved oxygen, simply because they can pop their heads up and breath air which is why we often see them swimming around with their mouths out of the water.
This video is of the epic fight that I had with this big carp. The full carp fishing video will be uploaded on Sunday and ready to be viewed on Sunday evening.
