Hello Anglers ,
I'm going to share with you my HALIBU77 RIG that I've used for years.
To all my fishing friend that I've shared my HALIBU77 RIG or who fished with me using it , Thank You.
Thank You for keeping this rig hidden on my request.
This rig might not had nothing to do with my luck on halibut , but I do believe I hit all the right spots on its sense to attract and trigger the fish to take the bait.
There are many rigs out there to help catch California halibut and now here is my HALIBU77 RIG rig to add to the list. I'm sure everyone who is fishing from a (((( KAYAK OR BOAT )))) can easily make and use this rig.
This HALIBU77 RIG is meant for very slow trolling .
Using the extra long leader 6' to 10' is the main idea on catching very BIG LAZZZZZY HALIBUT.
The SPIN-N-GLO / spinners purpose are to keep the bait off the bottom from snagging weeds and rocks. The SPIN-N-GLO / spinners also sends vibration as it spins and shakes the bait / leader like a dinner bell ringing to all halibut close by.
The chartreuse color is very bright in muddy murky water condition and great even in overcast weather.
HALIBU77 RIG how it works:
- As the 8oz to 12oz sinker bounces and drags along the ocean bottom any halibut in the area will try to locate this sound. They usually will give up if the sound is not at their reach. Using the long leader at a slow troll will make it easy for any lazy halibut to take a shot for an easy meal. Using my rig you can catch your limit in less time than other rigs depending on how the fish activity are that day. Someday halibut like faster trolling speeds and that's when I keep my bait straight with less spin to it.
-Trolling at 1mph the weight is the first thing that is sending noise and a trail of muddy clouds as its skipping along the bottom floor.
-Using a long leader 6'-10' is best with this rig since halibut loose interest if they have to chase after their meal.
What halibut wants to leave a warm bed early in the morning ?
Most of my takers hit this rig around 8am - 9:30am , this is the best time for early limits.
-If your fishing in 5' to 10' of water drag this HALIBU77 RIG far from the boat so that the motor doesn't send any negative current to the rig. For a kayak this HALIBU77 RIG is a plus , no worries straight down but when you hook-up be ready with a gaff and your gonna have to hand-line in your fish since this rig is extra long.
-Using a set of SPIN-N-GLO will help keep your bait afloat from sagging weeds or snagging rock . The spinners will also send the second vibrations in the water to attract (((any fish))) in the area. DON'T BE SURPRISED IF YOU HOOK UP SMELT !!!!!
-Color, yes it does play to have the right color either chartreuse or mixed with chrome body or Mylar Wings.
-I almost forgot to add , bend your bait so it will spin . I use a 5'" anchovy from a vacuum packed blue tray. Your double hook should be spread apart 4 3/4'' from point to point and 24'' long hook leader.
This rig may be used with live anchovy or shiners as well.
-Make sure to use a speed swivel or a ball bearing swivel to avoid line twist from your spinning bait.
-I use double 5/0 SSW OWNERS HOOK because these halibut are monsters and will straighten out hooks if the decide to run for the hills.
-This rig is great for yakers that paddle since you don't have to hold the rod and if you decide to stop for a break , your bait will automatically float above the bottom floor.
-My HALIBU77 RIG LEADER IS 40LB.RED LABEL FLUOROCARBON
-My HOOK LEADER IS 30LB. RED LABEL FLUOROCARBON
HAVE A GREAT 2016 FISHING SEASON AND REMEMBER TO FOLLOW ALL DFG REGULATION .
GOOD LUCK AT THE DERBY !!!!!!
