Today, Im exploring Te Uruwera, one of New Zealands Last Rainforests.
For the next 2 days ill be completely alone, Solo camping, Hiking and Fishing in the remote wilderness, Making my way through dense native bush to a hidden lake deep in the forest. What i expected to be a chill backcountry adventure quickly became something much more confronting.

As I traveled through Te Uruwera, I discovered that New Zealands Last rainforest is sick.

Behind the towering trees, birdsong, and breathtaking scenery lies a forest under pressure. Introduced pests, plants and a complex history of Māori and European settlement have left their mark on this landscape. The deeper I explored, the more I realised that the story of Te Urewera is not just one of wilderness, but of loss, resilience, and uncertainty.
This wilderness docuemntray is a combination of solo camping, remote lake fishing, New Zealand History, conservation and outdoor storytelling from one of the most unique places in Aotearoa.
The journey took me through amazing landscapes, rough weather, isolation and difficult questions about what it means to be a kiwi, and what the future is going to look like. By the time I made it back to the car, I couldnt see New Zealands wilderness the same way again...
