Partners of the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan work together the replenish water in creeks that are essential steelhead habitat in the Yakima Basin. In 2015, weather conditions led to the snowpack melting off in the spring instead of in the fall, leaving the basin without its “6th reservoir” to provide water to the system throughout the summer. This left crucial steelhead rearing habitat dry. Yakima Integrated Plan Members such as the Kittitas Reclamation District, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Washington Department of Ecology, Yakama Nation, Bureau of Reclamation, National Marine Fisheries Service, and cities and counties came together to solve the problem, coming up with the Tributary Flow Supplementation Program.
