June 30, 2017 - Pre Monroe County Off Shore Classic tournament AKA Big Fish Friday. Each boat can weigh in the largest species of each fish (king salmon, steelhead, lake trout, brown trout). Each team receives one point per pound and 10 points for each fish. We launched out of Braddock's Bay, NY and went after the fish we thought other boats would have trouble with being the brown trout and steelhead. We first went after our brown trout in close to shore and we boated a couple small browns but not anything that would win a tournament. We were encountering a lot of short bites and losing a lot of fish while using spoons and flies. We switched a couple of our lead core lines to stick baits. The Yo-Zuri wonderbread deep diver took off after only being in the water for 15 minutes helping us boat a 11.77 pound brown trout which was good for biggest of the day. We then went after our King salmon which we struggled with. We decided to head deep off shore in 500 feet, and try to catch our steelhead and maybe a larger king salmon. Before all the lines were set a beautiful steelie smashed our setup. We trolled for another few hours without any luck at upgrading either fish. We then headed back in shore to go after our lake trout. Our smaller King held us back but we were only one of a few boats that were able to land all four species. Our above average laker and huge brown carried us to second place overall.
