The fishing from shore is as good as it gets right now. Over the weekend we did a split day of Browns in the morning and smallies in the afternoon. We showed up to the river before the first colors of false dawn began to illuminate the black night sky. We casted into the minimal light the moon was offering up and connected on a nice fish in the first couple of casts. Unfortunately in the dark conditions I had over extended my drift past the rocks on my left side, with a short drag peeling run he brought me under the infamous rock pile and cut me off almost as fast as it had started. It felt like a gut punch knowing fish like that one don’t come every trip. Fifteen minutes later with the lights just starting to turn on we hooked up again and after a few surging runs and lots of displaced water we slipped a well fed 26.5 brown into the net. We continued on the morning working different sections of the river running into nice fat trout in just about every stretch we tried. But as the sun rose the temperatures came up with it and by 10:30 AM the bite had died out almost completely. #douglas #douglasoutdoors
