As the race to succeed President Jacob Zuma as ANC president enters the homestretch, the historically powerful and highly influential Eastern Cape province goes into this national elective congress limping a bit. There's uncertainty about the legitimacy of the recently elected provincial leadership following legal and internal party challenges by some members. The province also goes to Nasrec with at least two of its regions, including Amathole, its biggest - have broken ranks with the new provincial leadership on their preference to take over the reigns as party president.
