Check out the highlights!
Hey all! It's another session of carp fishing here at the San Gabriel Park on a busy Sunday. As usual, it's extremely windy (my apologies) and Kim crushes me with her voodoo fishing magic in front of a large audience. We also brought along Sabastian so he could enjoy a fine day Outside with Ed.
I fumbled early in the game by forgetting our net. This definitely cost us a possible PB for Kim and she is definitely still upset about this, as I have often heard. Also, I know I really need to get some sort of sling/mat to land these carp on. It's a bit of poor form on my part and I will try to remedy that with haste.
Here's the gear:
My gear today included my Daiwa Regal 4000BRi and Ugly Stik 9'0" M action (SPL 1100). PowerPro (Hi-Vis Yellow) Braid 20lbs.
I also tried to make use of a Zebco Omega Z03 (spincast) and Ugly Stik Elite 6'6" MH (USECA662MH). I spooled some PowerPro (Hi-Vis Yellow) Braid 20lbs and tried some catfishing with no luck. I originally bought this setup for Kim but it was a little heavy and awkward so now it sits around.
Kim is currently using a Shimano Solstace 4000FI and Ugly Stik Big Water Series 6'6" M (BWS 1100) spooled with PowerPro (Moss Green) Braid 30lbs.
Her second setup includes her Shimano Sedona 2500FE and Ugly Stik Elite 6'6" M (USESP662M) spooled with PowerPro (Moss Green) Braid 20lbs.
I tried using the Eagle Claw Circle Hooks size 1 but it didn't seem to work out this time. I had a few bend-outs which cost me a good size carp. I feel the carp are too heavy for it's intended use so I'll need to look for some smaller hooks for carp. When I realized I didn't have the net and we lost our first two carp, I cut out all the leaders (Trilene XT 20lb Mono) and switched to Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hooks size 2/0.
I do not get paid through any sponsorships and work hard to have what I own. I favor certain brands because the gear works for me. I fish for my enjoyment but would love to be able to pass on a little knowledge or inspiration. I'd always rather be fishing!
If you made it this far, you are amazing!
